Doug enjoys risk management because he is able interact with many other professionals in many different disciplines. "In risk assessment, I need to understand contract law (the insurance policy), litigation (claims), tax/financial issues (deductibles, self insurance), reading of blue prints and site surveys (building/construction) and then the wrapping of all that together for the financial wellbeing of a company.” Before he landed in insurance, Doug worked in hospitality—another service business—with stints with a large hotel franchisor and with a hotel developer; he managed hotel properties for four years. Perhaps it helps keep his brain nimble for business: Doug thinks it’s fun to run marathons and other races throughout the Northwest. “And I enjoy golf, but I’m not very good.” Doug is married and has four children. He enjoys spending his time coaching and being involved in his children’s sporting events. He also enjoys traveling from Billings, Montana, to any warm beach and to Washington Grizzly Stadium.
